Borderhunter Summer Meeting 2017

Hi Free Radio and pirate fans!

It's already time for another one! From the 30th June to 2nd July 2017, everyone of distinction in the free radio scene meets once again – both listeners and stations!

On this particular weekend, it’s provisionally planned that the next Borderhunter summer meeting (well-known and well-loved across Europe) will take place in the first weekend of July. Only those who already know about this fantastic meeting, know what the home stayers miss.

As in every year, the question of where to stay overnight is no problem! You can stay in a car, tent, caravan, hotel, B&B or at the accommodation at the camp site (complete with beds, but bring a sleeping bag) – everything can be brought along, as everything is best provided for.

The meeting begins officially on Saturday, as usual. In addition, every year many hobbyists travel on Friday, which the boss of the organisation also has no problem with. Everyone is always most cordially welcome at any time!

You can safely leave your picnic basket at home with your mother – the selection of meals and drinks is so vast, that you will be a little bit heavier when you return home on Sunday!

And all this and more at affordable prices. However in order not to drive the meeting organisation into financial ruin, there is a small contribution of 2 Euros per person which is obligatory.

Radio Borderhunter will organise a meeting for friends of the free radio and pirate hobby, that is not only unique, but will also remain unsurpassed – that we promise all hobbyists!

In order that we can better plan, we request that you let us know when you are coming, in advance if possible. As we want to make sure that we have enough food beforehand, for example.

Reservations, applications and questions should be directed to the following e-mail address: summermeetingtime@hotmail.com or to
PO BOX 2702, 6049 ZG HERTEN, THE NETHERLANDS.

The exact route to the meeting will be given in advance. Most of you will know it from previous years.

Our motto for this meeting, as always is: come, see, be amazed, be at home.

All free radio friends are cordially welcome at the BORDERHUNTER SUMMER MEETING on 30th June until 2nd of July 2017!!!

Pirate Studio 52 to start monthly broadcast via relay

Studio 52 will start a short wave via Media Broadast GmbH, starting from 3 June 2017, once a month, from 1200 to 1500 UTC (14:00 - 17:00 hours CET).

Due to delays in the approval from the German authorities, the broadcast is initially outsourced to Sofia and from there the 11715 kHz with 100kW.

The aim is, however, to carry the transmission in the 49m band with 100kW from Nauen.

The same transmitter and antenna is used for the well-known KBC, so that approximately the same reception conditions are achieved.

The broadcasts also run via the stream http://stream.spdns.org:8000, which is also frequented by Hitmix and Radio60 during the week.

------------------------------------------------------

Irish pirate radio website

There's a new website for people interested in the Irish pirate radio era. The site owner, who has been involved in several Irish medium wave and shortwave stations, is interested in swapping recording with other enthusiasts.

On his site he says he believes it is one of largest privately owned collections. He adds: "This website is based around my large collection of pirate radio recordings, which I will not put up on the internet for anyone to download free of charge. I prefer to swap my recordings with other people, so that we can all share our collections in a controlled manner, so that we can all enlarge our respective collections in the process."

New book about pirate radio in 80s London

The book is called "TX Magazine: Pirate radio dispatches from eighties London." Information about
the book on the AM FM website says:

"For three years between 1985 and 1988, TX Magazine documented the changes on London’s illegal airwaves. New laws had just increased the risks of pirate broadcasting, driving away many of the earlier participants. An experiment in community broadcasting was planned by the government, only to be axed over extremism fears. From a small hardcore of pirates in 1985, the FM band exploded with new and diverse stations.

This book presents a slice through the archives of TX Magazine, giving an insight into London’s radio at this critical time in its history and the hopes for a better radio system that reflected the changing city.

Compiled by Stephen Hebditch, the editor of TX Magazine and author of the acclaimed history of unlicensed radio in the capital, London’s Pirate Pioneers.

Featuring an updated history of the magazine and including layouts from the original magazine masters, this new book returns TX to print for the first time in over a quarter century."
