Teen radio pirate given 15 months probation

A “petulant” teenage radio pirate who threw a tantrum and threatened Ottawa radio personalities has been placed on 15 months probation. The now 15-year-old had set up a radio station out of his home using transmitting equipment he purchased with money from an inheritance and began broadcasting without a licence. When Industry Canada shut him down and seized his equipment after repeated warnings in January 2010, he threatened and harassed one of the agency’s investigators, a judge found.

The man behind former pirate turned legal station, Rinse FM

Dizzee Rascal and Katy B were two of the today's music stars discovered by former London pirate Rinse FM. Last year the station received a community radio license and this year went on the air as a legal station. The Guardian newspaper has talked to station's publicity-shy founder, Geeneus, about its rise from the early days broadcasting from his living room with an aerial poking out of the window to today's set-up in east London.

Dutch authorities get tough with radio pirates

Radiocommunications Agency Netherlands will soon launch a new tougher policy to deal with pirate radio stations, according to a report in De Telegraaf. The illegal broadcasters may soon have a fine of 2,500 euros imposed on them as soon as half an hour after they receive a warning letter.

Unlicensed broadcasting now illegal in New York State

Governor Andrew Cuomo has signed legislation making the operation of an AM or FM radio station without a license illegal in the state of New York. Violations will be treated as a “Class A” misdemeanour. The new law gives local law enforcement an important tool to protect consumers and stem the tide of illegal radio operation in New York.

Lightning Radio QSL

Reply said station uses 25W into a Commando transmitter. Antenna is a half wave dipole, 8 metres high, but he is looking to raise the height. Location is central Hungary and reports always welcome with the QSL design changed each month. I suggested he tried SSB to improve reception but he said he doesn't have a SSB capable transmitter.
