QSL from Long Live Radio

A very quick reply from Long Live Radio. In his reply the operator says: "We use driving oscillator and power amplifier both on vacuum tubes, max output is about 75W (GU-50 tubes). Antenna - halfwave endfeed resonant wire ("Fuchs' antenna"). Tests began on 7th of September evening on 5800 kHz. First broadcast with station IDs was on 16th of September. QTH is one of the countries of ex-USSR. Next tests are planned for October 18th, 19th and 21st from 1600 till 1845 UTC (start time may vary) on 5780 kHz or near. Antenna configuration will be changed every 30 min." Thanks for the QSL!

FRS Holland test broadcast on Sunday

Hello Radio Friends
Some latest info. Next Sunday 16 October at 08:00 UTC/ 10:00 CEST there will be a 60 minute test on 7600 kHz in preparation for the FRSH 23rd October broadcast.
According to our tx operator, it might be the case that 7600 is used by a foreign station during day time on Sundays. Therefore I will try to check 7600 next Sunday.
If any of you are listening in next Sunday and are able to tune in to 7600 between 09-14 UTC, please do so. If you hear any signals from a foreign (Chinese?) station on 7600, please let us know by email. If 7600 happens to be used for one or more hours during day time (before 14 UTC), we will be using 7685.
October 23rd and 30th will see our internet stream between 13:52-20:00 UTC/ 14:52- 21:00 UTC (Oct. 30th > winter time).
Let's hope propagation will improve a bit so that we can enjoy loud and clear signals on 7600 or 7685.

New Radio Tropiq QSL

A colourful new QSL has been received from Radio Tropiq in Hungary. The station says it runs 50 watts into a 17 metre long antenna which is 11 metres off the ground. The station mostly broadcasts at weekends. Thanks for the QSL.

KBC returns to shortwave on Saturday

The website of Dutch-based KBC Radio states that the tests on mediumwave 531 kHz from Burg, Germany will stop on Friday 7 October. Until then, the tests are at 1500-1800 UTC.

As previously reported, KBC Radio will start testing on 6095 kHz shortwave on Saturday 8 October. The tests will be each Sat & Sun at 0900-1600 UTC. The schedule of programmes is on this page.

Wizard's medium wave pirate review

Wizard Radio writes on the AM Forum: "The very latest MW Pirate Review is now available to download. This is the third instalment of the mp3 download and contains lots more recordings of Dutch pirate stations made here in England.

There are around 50 different stations on this latest review, many of them different from the pirates heard on the first two reviews. There are stations with just a few watts of power and stations with several kilowatts, from all parts of the Netherlands.

Airwaves driven gaga by pirate radio

PIRATE radio DJs who set up an illegal station put a 10-foot aerial on top of a block of flats (in Crawley, West Sussex) without anyone noticing.
It was only discovered when Ofcom received complaints after interference with air traffic control systems at Gatwick Airport.
The pirates managed to get through security gates at Robinson House on the High Street and into roof space with access to the roof.
They even fixed a lock onto the back of the door so they could not be disturbed while at work completing the process.

Three months community service for Israeli radio pirate

The Haifa District Court, sitting as the Criminal Appeals Court, has sentenced a man to three months’ community service for broadcasting on a pirate radio station, the State Attorney’s Office announced today.

Yehuda Sorogon had been originally convicted in the Hadera Magistrates’ Court of making illegal broadcasts on Briza, a Haifa area pirate radio station broadcasting on FM, between 2005 and 2008. However, the State Attorney’s Office had appealed to the higher court against the original sentence of probation imposed on the defendant.

Pirate radio rave tapes: 'You can't Google this stuff'

Happy hardcore, jungle, garage – as 90s pirate radio cranked it out, Mike Finch soaked it up on thousands of cassette tapes. Dan Hancox marvels at a treasure trove that's truly massive:

"It was the sound of London when I was doing my GCSEs," says 31-year-old Mike Finch. "I remember in 1994 and '95 you would walk down Oxford Street and the stalls there would all have jungle playing; that Congo Natty ragga sound. It was there in the air anyway, and all you needed was a little radio to tune in." In many ways, Finch is not unusual – a rave everyman who had his life changed for ever by the music of the pirate radio stations. What makes him different is that the legacy he carries with him is also a tangible one: Finch has what must be Britain's largest archive of 90s pirate radio tapes. It's a combination of thousands of home-recorded C90 cassettes, and hundreds of "tape packs", the semi-official collections of recordings of major jungle, drum'n'bass, happy hardcore, garage and grime raves. It's music that scarcely exists in any industry-recognised recorded form.

Pirate stations mark 9/11

In einer konzertierten Aktion haben sich zahlreiche Piratenstationen entschlossen, am Sonntag, 11.September in Erinnerung an den Bombenterror in New York vor 10 Jahren der Tausenden Opfern zu gedenken und ab 10.00 UTC (12.00 MESZ) ihre Sender für 9 Minuten abzuschalten. Hiermit möchten wir alle Station bitten, sich dieser Aktion ebenfalls anzuschließen und auch bei ihren Sendern für 9 Minuten für 9 Minuten die Stecker zu ziehen. Klickt auch auf meine HP.
