This from the Laser Hot Hits website:
"We are very sad to announce that one of Laser's regular presenters, Steve Roberts, passed away earlier this week from a heart attack. Steve had been with Laser for around 5 years and produced some fine programmes for the station that were always very popular with our listeners.
However, Steve's connection with Laser goes back much further since many of the current presenters on Laser worked with Steve on previous radio stations in the 80's. These include Hits FM, The Music Machine and Veronica Supergold which were all FM pirate stations in London. We all became great friends through our involvement on these stations. More recently, Steve had been producing shows for Internet stations such as Radio Northsea International, Offshore Music Radio and Swedish station, Radio 88 Partille.
You can find out more about Steve and also read some tributes from his friends and loyal listeners at the Garry Stevens message board here."

Radio Seagull goes offshore
The radio ship Jenni Baynton, home of Dutch station Radio Seagull is anchored 15 miles out at sea. As we have one or two live shows from the ship every evening, there is a change of programming. Some shows can be heard at other times, some presenters have taken the opportunity of shore leave and their shows will be back after the ship has returned to her home port.
The offshore project runs from May 22nd and the final broadcast from the ship will be June 4th. Radio Seagull's sister station Radio Waddenzee, who broadcasts on 1602 AM from 7 am till 7 pm, will close down the offshore adventure June 5th at 19.00 CET.
When at sea Radio Seagull has a special e-mail address for listeners to send messages and requests to: offshore@radioseagull.com

When Pirates Ruled the Airwaves
During April all the UK radio stations owned by the GMG group carried a two part documentary called When Pirates Ruled The Airwaves, presented by Bill Nighy, star of The Boat That Rocked and included contributions from Tony Prince, Tony Blackburn, Charlie Wolf, Johnnie Walker, Dick Palmer, Roger Day and Paul Burnett among others.
Part 1 concentrates on the birth of the offshore stations up until about 1966 while part 2 talks about '67, into the '70s, '80s and beyond.
