FRS Holland's Summer Splash begins on Sunday

It’s almost time…. On Sunday, July 21st, we kick off our annual ‘Summer Splash’.

For the 4th time, you can listen to us on shortwave for three summery Sunday evenings from 19:00-21:00 UTC / 21:00-23:00 CEST. Frequencies will be (subject to change) 5940 and 9300 (alt. 9335). We are sorry for the lack of our 7700 outlet.

Each evening consists of two one-hour programs. The main idea is that each program is thematic. This approach can lead to surprising choices. Let yourself be pleasantly surprised! 

The Summer evening broadcasts create a wonderful atmosphere:  experience the ‘magic of shortwave free radio’ on July 21st & 28th and August 4th.

FRS Holland on the air this weekend

At long last we can report some good news: on Sunday (April 28th) FRS-Holland will be on air. The broadcast will start at 1452 UTC (16:52 CEST) because of the more favourable propagation compared with morning/ early afternoon. It will close at 1930 UTC (21:30 CEST).

Radio Augusta 1611 relay taken off air

"End of AM 1611 kHz relay, from Belgium, for Radio Augusta. The station was seized on April 4 by the national spectrum control service of the Belgian Institute of Postal Services and Telecommunications (IBPT). These tecnicians have the status of Judicial Police officers. The transmitter, which had a power of 400 W, was taken away and sealed.

"This transmitter was put into service and took over from Ukrainian Radio during the first weeks of the war with Russia. The aim was to give refugees a way to listen to their national radio when there was no alternative yet. Subsequently, RTBF launched a radio for Ukrainians and the transmitter broadcast the programs of Radio Augusta: a radio, launched by a Belgian, which is broadcast on the web and on FM in the region of Abidjan in Ivory Coast.

Many rumors had circulated about the location of the AM transmitter, it was located in Peruwelz, halfway between Mons in Belgium and Lille in France.

The Pirate Hunt 2024 will be held during Easter 2024 (March 29th –
April 1st).

We try to keep rules simple:

- This contest is "just for fun"! No need to argue.
- SDRs including remote receivers: Kiwi etc. are allowed! All bands are accepted but only stations without license are counted (no relays by legal stations), stations with many names shall be counted only once.
- log as many PIRATE stations as possible between March 29th 0000 UTC and April 1st 2359 UTC
- ID has to be heard or identification should be otherwise confirmed. QSL or recording is not necessary.
- post your full logs on the forum (http://bbs.fmdx.tk/index.php?topic=636.0), PirateHuntDX Facebook group or by e-mail piratehunt @ radioaktiiviset.info, during or after the contest (but until May 21st, 2024)
- participating is free for anyone and all participants will receive a diploma, results will be published at end of May
- Arguing about the contest rules will automatically result in a disqualification

Charleston Radio Int taken off the air

Some sad news today from Harry Richman of Charleston Radio International on Facebook:

"CHARLESTON RADIO INTERNATIONAL is shut down by authoritys today afternoon. So its history and i thank you for listening and posting over the years. The project was made for 100 years of AM Radio. I hope you remember me fondly BYE BYE."

The station, which was based in Germany Switzerland (see comments) had built up a loyal following with its programmes of music from the 1920s and 1930s. It always operated around the 5140 kHz area and was on air daily.

It had recently started a programme in the Italian language.

***UPDATE: Charleston! This weekend is all about the Charleston at Radio Twente Gold, a local mediumwave station in The Netherlands. One of our programmes is "Charleston Radio International", made by Harry Richman, who ran the Charleston radio station for several years on shortwave. This station has unfortunately stopped broadcasting this week. In honour of the many hours of music programmes compiled by Harry, Radio Twente Gold is rebroadcasting all of Charleston Radio International's programmes this weekend. Exciting music from the 1920s and 1930s. So listen from Saturday morning to Sunday evening (CET).

New show from Radio Igloo this weekend

On Saturday, March 2nd, a new program from Radio Igloo will be on air. The West Coast DX-Club will have a listening camp in a cabin in the woods north of Gothenburg next weekend.

To draw attention to this, Radio Igloo will be on air with a new program with a mix of information and music with Swedish artists. For the first time, the program will be broadcast simultaneously from at least four different transmitters, on different frequencies and from different locations in Central Europe.

This has been possible thanks to our radio-friends in Central Europe. The program will be broadcast on Saturday March 2nd at 17.00 Central European Time (1600 UTC) on  5010 or 5040, 5840, 6260, 6300  kHz (or on free frequencies nearby).

Presumably the program will be rebroadcast the following day at 15.00 CET (1400 UTC) but then only on 6300 kHz. We appreciate reports on our program, preferably with an audio clip and with comments on the content of the program.
