Dublin FM pirate raided

Dublin dance pirate Digital FM have been taken off the air by Comreg officials. The station's mountain site was raided on Thursday evening and  all of their equipment was removed. The station say they are "baffled" at the actions and claim they were not causing any interference.
Most other pirate stations in Dublin have continued broadcasting as normal this weekend.

London pirate to become legal

London-based pirate station Rinse FM has been awarded an official radio licence.

Founded in 1994, Rinse FM has become a legend amongst pirate radio stations. Usually short lived, the station has been broadcasting for over a decade showcasing drum 'n' bass, garage, dubstep and more.

In that time the station has launched countless careers, helping to spawn entire genres.

Now the underground station is set to be rewarded with an official radio license. Rinse FM will be available to hear legally later this year, broadcasting from its base in London.

Tougher action against Dutch pirate stations

The Radiocommunications Agency Netherlands (AT) is stepping up action to prevent illegal radio broadcasts. The agency will not only close down stations that are on the air without permit, but will also target aerial towers “obviously intended for illegal broadcasts”.

As a first step, AT inspectors will pay warning visits to land and home owners on whose premises suspicious constructions are spotted. “If these are used illegally, they will be fined 2,500 euros plus a conditional fine of 2,250.” The total fine that illegal broadcasters risk “can total up to 33,750 euros”, according to AT spokesman Gernant Deekens.
