Suspected pirate station raided in West Midlands
Recording equipment believed to be used for pirate radio and cannabis plants have been seized from a Bilston (near Wolverhampton, West Midlands) house.
The plants and equipment were found in a raid by West Midlands Police.
A police spokesman said officers executed a warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act at a property in Wellington Road at around 1130 GMT on Tuesday (Feb 8).
Two men, aged 55 and 33, were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the production of cannabis, and bailed pending further inquiries.
He added officers had seized nine cannabis plants and hydroponics equipment as well as a number of computers, webcams and music mixing decks.
An address in Castlecroft Avenue, Castlecroft, was subsequently searched and hydroponics equipment found.
The radio equipment was handed over to enforcement officers from the Office of Communications (Ofcom) who will decide on any further action.

Borderhunter Summer Meeting 2011
Hi Free Radio and pirate fans!
It's already time for another one! From the 1st to the 3th of July 2011, everyone of distinction in the scene meets once again - both listeners and stations!
On this particular week-end, it's provisionally planned that the next Borderhunter summer meeting (well-known and well-loved across Europe) will take place in the first weekend of July.
Only those who already know about this fantastic meeting, know what the home stayers miss.
As in every year, the question of where to stay overnight is no problem! You can stay in a car, tent, caravan, hotel, B&B or at the accommodation at the camp site (complete with beds, but bring a sleeping bag) - everything can be brought along, as everything is best provided for. The meeting begins officially on Saturday, as usual. In addition, every year many hobbyists travel on Friday, which the boss of the organisation also has no problem with. Everyone is always most cordially welcome at any time!
You can safely leave your picnic basket at home with your mother - the selection of meals and drinks is so vast, that you will be a little bit heavier when you return home on Sunday! And all this and more at affordable prices. However in order not to drive the meeting organisation into financial ruin, there is a small contribution of 2 Euros per person which is obligatory.
Radio Borderhunter will organise a meeting for friends of the free radio and pirate hobby, that is not only unique, but will also remain unsurpassed - that we promise all hobbyists! In order that we can better plan, we request that you let us know when you are coming, in advance if possible. As we want to make sure that we have enough food beforehand, for example.
Reservations, applications and questions should be directed to the following e-mail address: meeting2011@live.com or to PO BOX 2702, 6049 ZG HERTEN, THE NETHERLANDS.
The exact route to the meeting will be given in advance. Most of you will know it from previous years.
Our motto for this meeting, as always is: come, see, be amazed, be at home.
All free radio friends are cordially welcome at the BORDERHUNTER SUMMER MEETING on the 1st untill the 3th of July 2011!!!

Pirate radio station raided in north London
A PIRATE radio station operating from a house in Ponders End (Enfield) was shutdown this morning (Feb 4) after a police raid.
Officers from Ponders End Safer Neighbourhood Team swooped on the Alexandra Road address after monitoring the illegal station broadcasting locally.
Officers from media watchdog OFCOM were involved in the operation, after receiving reports of a pirate station interfering with legal broadcasts and containing offensive language.
Around £5,000 worth of equipment was seized, and two men, aged 40 and 51, were arrested on suspicion of broadcasting offences. They are currently being questioned at a north London police station.

The history of British underground music through cassettes of pirate stations
While pirate radio has existed in the US since the very invention of the medium, it’s had a far more significant impact in the UK. The movie Pirate Radio (the American name for 'The Ship That Rocked') dramatized how pirates forged cracks in the dam that the staid BBC built against R&B and rock n’ roll in the 60s. But British pirates retained cultural influence long after the Beeb embraced rock and commercial stations took to the dial.
In particular, pirate radio was the catalyst for British underground electronic dance music and hip-hop. Though less well known in the US, genres such as Jungle, Garage, Grime and drum ‘n’ bass were catalyzed and popularized by pirates, especially in London.
A new documentary by filmmaker Rollo Jackson tells the history of this music through the path of cassette tape recordings of prominent London pirates in his film Tape Crackers. The film just screened at the Institute for Contemporary Arts in London.
