RKNW on shortwave

British medium wave pirate RKNW plans to take to  the airwaves on shortwave on Christmas Day. On its website it announces it will be using 6240 kHz plus a second relay from Germany.

Regular free radio listeners will recognise the names of the presenters: Andy Walker, Chris Ise, Jackie Frost, Stewart Ross and Andy Peters.

There will also be a selection of classic 'radio comedy' shows.

The station is normally heard on 1521 kHz on Sundays broadcasting to south west London.

FRS Holland on 41 metres this Sunday

Next Sunday, December 8th, FRS-Holland will conduct a test broadcast on 7310 kHz/ 41 metres.
The test will last for two hours between 10:00-12:00 UTC/ 11:00- 13:00 CET. We are understandably curious what reception is like in your particular area. Therefore we do hope as many listeners as possible will be tuning our way and send a reception report, either via e-mail or snail mail. Correct reception reports will be verified with our station QSL. You can truly help us by sending in your reception report!

Our next full broadcast will be over the Holiday Season: on Sunday December 29th FRS-Holland will continue a long time tradition, ringing out 2013. It was in the early 1980s that we started with December Xmas broadcasts. Only very few times in the past 33 years, FRS was absent in December.
In the past years we have seen a  decline in the number of listeners willing to participate in our Seasonal broadcast.

We call on you as a faithful FRS friend and listener to take part this year…
We’d like to invite you- the listener-  to participate. Forward your very own personal Season's Greetings to the Free Radio Service Holland and we will make sure it'll be read out during our broadcast. First Dutch pirate fined under new policy

The first FM pirate raided under the new Telecom Agency policy, has been fined . 'Club AA' from Gramsbergen  was fined nearly € 10,000, reported the pirate site etherpiraten.com

Until a year and a half ago the popular pirate frequencies 97.0 and 94.5 MHz from the north eastern provinces of Overijssel and Drenthe had almost permanently ( 7 days a week , 24 hours a day) extremely powerful pirates on air, with huge heavy transmitters and towers which caused serious interference to the reception of legal Dutch and German stations.Powerful Twente pirates with high masts which used a frequency 97.0, meant the reception of the 3FM station Lopik ( 96.8 ) and that of Radio NL Zwolle ( 97.2 ) and the broadcast station in the German Nordhorn Deutschland, Radio Kultur on 97.1 were made ​​completely unusable .
