I have been listening to the shortwave bands every day now for the past 3 weeks and have not heard 1 uk based free radio station. i think even the bogusman has given up the ghost. i think it's time to say that UK shortwave free radio is well and truely dead. RIP!!!

Not quite - Merlin was on tonight (but I didn't hear him myself)... but you're right, there is not much UK activity.

I think Sonnet is still around and I'm sure the Bogusman will make another appearance soon.

Poor conditions don't help either...

Yeah, Merlin was on 6305 but was getting hammered by 6300 :(
Listened a bit on the stream instead.

Here is a message emailed to me from Radio 48: "Hi, Steve phoned me saying theres comments on your website about U.K. stations being off air?, Radio 48 & other U.K. stations are off air because very few listeners contact the radio stations anymore, If anyone would like R 48 or R Under G back on the free air waves of europe let me know,"

Why dont more stations use the 76mb? i was always a great fan of 48mb but with conditions the way they are with the current sunspot cycle the way it is stations may get a little bit more response and positive feedback if listeners could actually hear them. with comment to the bogusman, he has switched from using a 500w fixed site TX down to a 25w field based transmitter and still gets reports and very good reports from all over europe and behond.i think the bands used and the time of broadcast have a lot to do with response to broadcasts made.

yep, go low i say. 48mb is junk during the day with a small open window in the morning and an even smaller open window early evening!!

the other problem with evening/nightime reception on 48mb is finding a clear channel.

Best of British Radio is taking a summer vacation at the wonderful British sea-side, enjoying fish and chips and ice-cream and keeping the sun off our heads with a handkerchief tied at the corners. We will be back from our holidays soon and will have some very special stuff coming up later in the year. Stay tuned dear listener, the UK scene is not dead.

Well, lets hope something changes for the better real soon as it's just a waste of time switching the receiver on nowdays and speaking for myself i'm thinking of putting my HF receiver on ebay and calling it a day.

Merlin was on 6280 on Saturday morning and on Sunday. Then, Fantasy Radio (UK ??) was on 5815 on Sunday evening with a very good music program.

Maybe the long skip made them hard to hear in UK.

Acc. to QSL letters from R.Amica, the power is still 1 kW, but the quater wave vertical antenna has been changed in an inverted V. Maybe the antenna could still be improved.
