Is Jock Wilson still out there?

Good question : Jock Wilson was Radio Stella International wasn't he? I heard him regularly back in the late eighties and early nineties: the station put in a good signal here.

Cheers Paul and anonymous. I think in Stella's heyday they were simultaneously on 3, 6, and 7(7446?)Mhz.

I had their old transmitter until someone came round ,and picked it up then they never used it .

Jock Wilson is a member of the HF Underground forum and sometimes posts stuff on there

China? Wow! I'll bet a lot of free radio operators would love to have transmitters as powerful or as prolific as CRI's. Like with Radio Moscow in the 1980's, you sometimes wonder if there's anyone else still doing shortwave! :) I have fond memories of Stella too. Good audio and signal and regular operations. Nice to learn that Jock is alive and well.

Busy on 75 metres this evening (Saturday 4th July).

Radio Technical Man on 3911 kHz
Radio Piepsender on 3920 kHz (closing at 11pm British Time)
Mike Radio on 3940 kHz (nice punchy modulation, and idents in English as well as Dutch)

Although they're legals, hobbyists Channel 292 on 3955 kHz were relaying German ex-pirate metal station Radio Sylvia for much of the evening. 'Shortwave Radio 3975' had an Italian DX and enthusiasts show, which seemed to be discussing the 70's pirate scene in Italy. Radio Oz-Viola on 5825 kHz was again playing tapes of Laser 558 from 1984.

Mediumwave pirates were also busy: gabber type hardcore dance on 1617 kHz, polka on 1633 kHz (Radio Zender de Mi Amigo), QSO Response from Radio Zender Noordzee on 1633 after Mi Amigo closed at 11.10pm, rock music on 1645 kHz (Radio Concordia), progressive on 1656 kHz (Radio Nachtserver), schlager on 1662 kHz (Radio Digitaal), QSO Response after Digitaal shut on 1661 kHz by Radio Zender Monte-Carlo, and "yodelling" type tracks on 1671 kHz (later replaced by rock and metal music - possibly heard them ID as Radio Tamara). All had great and clear audio.

I located an open and free to use WebSDR in the Thessaloniki region of Greece. There was a weak pirate signal on 1670 kHz playing traditional Greek music well into the early hours. Most of the in-band AM stations in Greece are technically illegal, so I have read. Enforcement doesn't occur as long as no interference takes place. Macedonia are reported to have closed their last state radio broadcaster on MW, so it will be interesting to see if a similar "free radio" flourishing develops there.

5825 isn't Oz Viola ... it's a pirate

Busy Saturday night on the bands ... good to see!

I have read that Piepzender is actually licensed to use 1kW on 3920.
Their website shows a Rhode and Schwarz SK-050 transmitter, a classic Dutch pirate rig.
It also says that they have a low power transmitter on 1467khz.
