Asphalt Telegraph eQSL

Email received from the low power Swedish hobby station Asphalt Telegraph who I logged on Nov 30 between 2245-2315 UTC. He said his 300 watt signal has been heard right across Europe. At the moment the Swedish authorities only allow him to apply for 14 day temporary licences but he hopes to get a permanent licence. He can be heard after Moldova signs off at 2000 UTC. He is on air until Dec 8 then returns from Dec 23 to Jan 5.

A quick reply from Dutch MW pirate Radio Dolfijn who I logged yesterday evening on 1633 kHz. The operator said he was been doing this hobby for 48 years and his transmitter can run up to 800W. Incidentally, this station is not to be confused with another Radio Dolfijn, who operates on shortwave. Thanks Willem.

New free radio station from Texas

A new free radio station from Texas will be taking to be airwaves on Thanksgiving Day (Thursday) on 6925 Khz or nearby from 2300 UTC.

As the transmission will be broadcast in North America, it might be a challenge to hear in Europe. But Texas Radio Shortwave is giving European listeners a chance to tune into the sound of Texas on Christmas Day with a relay via Channel 292 in Germany on 6070 & 7440. More details nearer the time.

Free Radio Skybird & WGAY eQSLs

A couple of eQSLs received from the USA over the weekend. First up was Free Radio Skybird, heard via Channel 292. Then a American pirate station called WGAY who I heard via SDR in SW England last month. He said this was the first report he had received from the UK. Many thanks for the QSLs.

I also had a reply from Merseyland Alternative Radio who I logged on 6275 kHz yesterday. MAR confirmed it was a relay, although they have no idea who was putting out their programme. Rodger from the station said they have been testing on 1611 and 6266. He was also pleased someone had been relaying their programme to a wider audience.

An email and some photos have been received from Radio Freedom in the Netherlands.

In their email they wrote: "On 19 and 20 October we broadcast 2 days on the 6290Khz under the name Radio Freedom. We are 4 friends and sometimes we will broadcast a weekend on the short wave. Our studio is located in the north east of the Netherlands.

"You have received us and sent us a confirmation by e-mail. We really enjoy receiving an email from listening amateurs. Our transmitter is a home-made transmitter with a maximum capacity of 100 watts.

"Our antenna is an inverted V antenna, and is 11 meters high. We want to thank you for your response. In the attachment you will find pictures of our antenna system and transmitter."

Mystery of tango station on 6980 kHz

Recently a station has been heard on 6980 kHz playing tango music. Many DXers assumed it was Radio Tango Italia. But an email from the operator says it wasn't him.

"Dear friend, unfortunately I have to inform you that this is not my transmission regarding my Radio Tango Italia, plus I don't use this frequency, I sent from 6205 to 6300 KHz, currently I'm not in business, I think I'll resume experimental transmissions in a few months, if in your possibilities I kindly ask you if you will be able to inform other passionate friends by email, forum, blog, facebook etc. with regard,
