On August 15, let's celebrate one year since MRI returned back on the air  on the occasion of Ferragosto national holiday! Tune in to MRI  Thank you for your participation!

Every year many Italians observe Assumption Day, also known as Ferragosto, on August 15. This year the national holiday of Ferragosto  (which celebrates the Catholic belief that God assumed the Virgin Mary into Heaven at her death) coincides with the first anniversary since MRI,  after 15 years of dormancy, returned back to the airwaves  on 15 August 2015.

Although most of Italians go to the beach (or mountains) for Ferragosto, MRI will be on the air with a special broadcast as follows: from  0800 to 1000 UTC  on 7700 kHz USB and from 1030 to 1530 UTC on 15025 kHz.

To mark this anniversary, we’ll air  “Ferragosto Show”, with music, interviews and listeners' feedbacks.

But that is not all. In addition to our weekly DX shows  "Italian Shortwave Panorama" (in English) and  "Panorama Onde Corte" (in Italian),  we'll be airing a repeat of our special programme  in Italian produced, in cooperation with Radio Europe  and IBC – Italian Broadcasting Corporation, to celebrate the  role of free shortwave radio on the occasion of 2016 World Radio Day.

We take this opportunity to invite shortwave listeners and DXers, in conjunction with this Special Ferragosto broadcasts  on August 15, 2016, to send your greetings in a form of audio clip (mp3-file) or  text  to marconiradiointernational@gmail.com. We'll  air  and include  your greetings in our next MRI Newsletter.

As usual MRI encourages reception reports from listeners. Audio clips (mp3-file) of our broadcasts are welcome! We QSL 100% and of course a  Special  Ferragosto  QSL verification will be sent to acknowledge reports about reception of above mentioned broadcasts.

Radio Armada wins QSL award

The long-running Dutch medium wave pirate Radio Armada has been voted as the first recipient of the free radio QSL Award at this year's Dutch summer meeting for free radio listeners and operators, held a few weeks ago.

Listeners had been voting for which station they believed offered the best QSL service and the result was announced at the meeting. The station operator received a  Swedish crystal vase and a bouquet of flowers.

The award was sponsored by the Shortwave Combination Holland free radio station and Swedish DX clubs MKVK and VDXK.

I was able to listen to Radio Armada on Saturday evening on 1667 kHz and sent him a reception report. I received a quick reply with an eQSL, letter and photo of him with his award.

Mi Amigo special broadcast

Thursday July 21 19:00 - 22:00 [cet] -  the Mi Amigo Shortwave AM Radio Event of the Year!                    

At the beginning of this month we introduced many great improvements to our station, such as: a new international Saturday schedule, the arrival of Mi Amigo legend Peter van Dam and a new improved 192k high quality web stream.

To celebrate this new chapter in our history at the start of our new summer season, our entire crew of DJ's and technical staff a will all meet at our Short Wave Transmission Centre in beautiful Kall-Krekel, Germany for a group BBQ and a 3 hour live broadcast to Europe and the world!

For this special occasion we will not only broadcast on our regular European 6005 kHz (49m band) and the 1485 AM (from Riga), but this live show will also be relayed to the world by a 100 kW Shortwave transmitter in Armenia, on 11.850 kHz (25m band)!

This powerful 100kW transmitter has 12 different directional antenna configurations and will be able to reach parts of the world outside Europe where normally we are not received. So we intent to properly introduce ourselves and the station to all the new listeners worldwide.

The 3 hour show will feature reports and details about the unique vintage Shortwave Broadcast Centre in Kall, our transmitters, the buildings and antenna's. We'll talk about today's Free Radio and our station, where we come from and about our big plans for the nearby future. We'll introduce everyone in our excellent team.

Our DJs will tell stories -and answer questions- about their time on the glorious radio ships and play some of their special favourite records.
It will be a fun night, a real get-together of our AM radio loving international DJs and our listeners. The broadcast will be mainly in English with some Dutch, German and French as well. The music will also bring back some wonderful Free Radio memories.
