Magic confusion

Long-running Dutch shortwave pirate Magic AM has been getting emails for a new shortwave station, also calling itself Magic - which is thought to be from the UK. He has warned people he will not be sending them on!

The Dutch Magic AM has gone onto Twitter to say: "We are getting a lot of e-mails and snailmail for a station calling himself MAGIC int. in our mailbox and P.O.Box lately. Please note that these e-mails and snailmail will not be forwarded. We are MAGIC AM, active on shortwave since 1996, and we do not know the people behind the other station,using our name & running non-stop music on SW.We have been on air since 1996 & will stay MAGIC AM forever."

Somerset pirate station vows to return

The bosses of a pirate radio station in Taunton (Somerset) say they’ll be back despite being shut down for the second time in five months.

A spokesman for the industry watchdog (Ofcom) said the raid on Rage FM on Friday morning was part of an inquiry into “radio interference”. A Rage representative said he was incensed by the early morning operation.

He said: “Their (Ofcom) tactics are turning desperate. “Their activities woke many residents – just to seize an FM transmitter rig and aerial from a tree. Their claims of interference to emergency services radios and anti-social behaviour are generalised to say the least and no such evidence exists in our case.”

Message from Spain. We are doing a test transmission on Sunday 14th September from 10-14 h. CET on 6005 kHz in the 49m shortwave band.

If there is a good response on the shows we will do it regularly every Sunday from October/ November on during that time.

The programmes will be in English, German and Dutch.

QSL from Radio OZNRH

Quick reply from Radio OZNRH from Denmark. I heard snatches of music on 6263.5 kHz on Saturday night and sent audio files to the station to ask if it was them. Today I got the reply to say it was OZNRH. In his reply Ole said they are only using a 4m high vertical coil antenna but are increasing the height to 6m to try and improve the signal. Many thanks for the QSL.
