Red Sands Radio

Red Sands Radio broadcasting from the Red Sands Fort in the North Sea, seven miles from Whitstable in Kent, has gone on the air. The station will be broadcasting on 1278kHz until July 23, having been given a temporary licence by Ofcom.

The station is commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Marine Offences Act which saw the closure of most of the offshire pirates in 1967. The wartime structures were used by several stations between 1964 and 1967.

HD de Boer sent me an audio clip he made of Red Sands Radio in Dokkum in the north of the Netherlands. Click here to hear the recording.

The station also has streaming audio via its website, where you can also find out more about the project. Go to http://www.redsandonline.co.uk/
