Here's hoping for a bumper Christmas on the pirate bands!

I've not often heard an inband medium wave free radio station originating from the UK. Tonight, there is a relay of Radio Caroline Flashback on 927 kHz. The signal is fading quite a lot, but it's definitely there on the University of Twente receiver. There is speculation on the chat box as to who might be relaying them! Whatever the case, it's great to have Caroline on 648 kHz and their Flashback service on 927 kHz.

Dutch medium wave pirates on 1635 kHz and 1642 kHz. Former seems to be two transmitters on the exact same frequency and causing a bit of a noise. 1642 playing "Thank God It's Christmas" by Queen and then "Let's Go All the Way". On the Asendorf receiver, the 1642 kHz station seemed to be identifying in English as Voss AM, or maybe Eros AM, saying hi to a few DXers. Another Dutch station could be heard on 1650.5 playing traditional tunes. Greek station on 1661 kHz with lots of chat and occasional bazouki music.

The top end of MW can get a bit of a mess as stations often come on very close to each other. The 1642 station is Ros AM, who supposedly takes his name from the Ross Revenge. He plays less traditional Dutch music and more American & British pop/rock.

As far as British MW pirates go, the only two in-band stations I can think of are Radio Albatross (which might be the relayer on 927) and Radio Britannia which operates from the Yorkshire area.

I don't think Merseyland Alternative Radio still operates on medium wave.
