Radio Titanic Int celebrates 50 years with special broadcast

Germany's longest-serving free radio station, Radio Titanic International which last contaminated the airwaves with its free radio programs 25 years ago, is back on shortwave for you, offering you the unique opportunity to hear the station again, or for the first time thanks to the outstanding service provided by Shortwave Gold and shortwaveradio.de, who gave us the opportunity to celebrate this unique comeback of RTI via their transmitters!

The station was active on various pirate radio frequencies from 1975 to 2000 – some old-timers may still remember this – and is now celebrating its unique comeback on shortwave exactly 50 years after its broadcasting launch in August 1975.

In the first 25 years of its existence, RTI broadcast more than 250 times with its own transmitters and those of its friends, and sent out more than 1,500 printed QSL cards during that time.

In addition to a current programme segment, there will be a retrospective of RTI's station history, as well as various recordings from almost all of the DJs who were hired on the broadcasting ship TITANIC at the time.

The program blocks will be in German, English, Swedish, and Spanish, among others, hosted by all the DJs who contributed announcements and programmes in the years before the millennium. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all our friends and many helpers; without your enthusiasm, this project would never have survived 25 years!

Station founder Mark Brown welcomes every response. There is only one contact option, and only this one, via email: RadioTitanic@aol.com. This address will be closed at the end of 2025.

Please note: All other postal and email addresses listed in the various broadcast blocks have been invalid for more than 25 years! Printed QSL cards will also no longer be available!

But of course, an eQSL will be issued for accurate, detailed reception reports of at least 15 minutes. Reception observations via SDR world receivers are also welcome. However, please do not send us "Man sings - speech - woman sings - speech reports." Unfortunately, we cannot do anything with that, and these reports will not be responded to. Details are requested, including short audio/video recordings of up to 3MB in size or 2 minutes per report. Unfortunately, our server cannot handle more than that! Please compress the files.

Please also note that due to vacation, we will not respond to emails until late fall or winter 2025. We therefore sincerely ask listeners to be patient and not to file complaints after a few days or weeks. It's pointless!

General criticism of the programs is, of course, very welcome and encouraged. We wish all old and new listeners uninterrupted reception, good entertainment, and lots of fun listening.

Radio Augusta eQSL

 

Radio Augusta sent me an eQSL for its shortwave broadcast via Radio Onda's transmitter in Luxembourg on 6140 kHz. The station can be heard daily between 1800-1900 UTC with a good signal. The station used to broadcast via a relay in Belgium on 1611 kHz until this was taken off the air last year by the Belgian authorities.

Radio Overdrive and Radio Cuckoo eQSLs

 

A new UK station on shortwave is Radio Overdrive who I heard with a weak signal last weekend on 6250 kHz. But the station operator is no stranger to the shortwave free radio scene. In the 1970s and 1980s he operated a station called Radio Corsair.

Recently Corsair celebrated its 50th anniversary with a special broadcast on FM. But he is hoping to get Corsair back on to shortwave.

On August 9 and 10, Overdrive will be doing a special broadcast to mark the 80th anniversary of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs. It will be on 9940 kHz from 4pm to 8pm using the name "The Peace Pirate." Special QSLs will be provided for correct reports.

I also have received an eQSL from Radio Cuckoo, from Ireland. The station was heard with a good signal on Tuesday.
