Man fined $10,000 for operating on 14.312 MHz

The ARRL reports on the latest enforcement action by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to protect amateur radio spectrum
The ARRL say: "On February 25, the FCC issued a Notice of Apparent Liability for Forfeiture (NAL) in the amount of $10,000 to Jared A. Bruegman, ex-KC0IQN, of Bolivar, Missouri. The FCC said that Bruegman “apparently and willfully violated Section 301 of the Communications Act of 1934, as amended by operating an unlicensed radio transmitter on the frequency 14.312 MHz in Bolivar, Missouri.”

Bruegman -- who does not currently hold an Amateur Radio license -- was operating in the phone portion of the 20 meter band that is assigned to the Amateur Radio Service on a primary basis; his Amateur Radio license expired in 2010. As a former Technician class licensee, he did not have privileges to operate in that portion of the 20 meter band when he held an Amateur Radio license.

If you are interested in the Dutch medium wave pirates a good site to check out is Wizard's medium wave free radio blog, where he regularly posts logs, recordings and other interesting material. I'm always impressed with his success at pulling in the signals from the Netherlands.

FRS Holland this Sunday

Dear FRS Friends,
The Free Radio Service Holland have planned a full 5-hour broadcast this upcoming Sunday, February 24th. In preparation to that, we tested on 7685 kHz last Sunday February 17th: results were satisfactory and we are confident next Sunday a good signal will be aired over the European airwaves.

Next Sunday FRS-Holland will be on air between 08:52-14:00 UTC/ 09:52- 15:00 CET. The broadcast is on 5800//7600 kHz and on 6070 kHz/ 49 metres as well.  Programme line-up includes all FRS presenters (except Paul Graham) and consists of FRS Magazine, the German Service, FRS Goes DX , Radio Waves and the FRS Golden Show. Ingredients....great music, DX News (also in the German Show!), letters, the day calendar and a number of  radio related items. In addition we pay tributes to two FR persons who recently passed away (German Show, FRS Goes DX part 2). It will be worth while. FRS-Holland brings true free radio into your receiver! Arvid in Norway sent me a recording he made. He writes: "I just wondered if you could help me to identify this jingle, which is infact an e-mail address ? Heard today (Feb 14) at 13.07 UTC on 6305 kHz with good signal. I couldn`t really get the first part of the jingle, the last part is gmx.net."

I have listened and also can't ID the name of the station. Can anyone help?

Pirate radio station raided in Wolverhampton

A man has been arrested in a raid on a pirate radio station in Wolverhampton.

Police and officials from communications regulator Ofcom raided the premises in Crowther Street, Park Village, early on Wednesday.

Equipment was also seized, including a microphone, a mixing desk, a computer and electrical cables.

Police said a man, 33, from Dudley, was arrested on suspicion of offences under the Wireless Telegraphy Act 2006. He has been released on bail.

Radio Dinosaur heard on 846 1308 (Sunday) with Paper Sun then talk. Fair and above local noise level using a Sony 7600G, Anoraks UK loop + DMA. Speech level seemed a bit lower than the music so couldn't follow all of it. Some splash from 837, also the Cranfield Air Beacon on 850 audible.

They have been on a few times during December and January, first using 819 then 846.

When this was last on air in 2011, British DX Club member Mark Hattan was told by Rhys from OFCOM:

Dear Mark,
Yes, this is a public information broadcast that will operate from 4-8 April and 11-15 April 2011.
 The purpose of this service is threefold. Firstly, it is to advertise the availability of 87.7 MHz for temporary radio services. Secondly, it is to explain about Ofcom and our key responsibilities. And finally, it is to raise awareness about illegal broadcasters and the problems that they cause.
I hope this clears things up.

Another BDXC member, Ian Kelly, monitored the broadcast and reported: "Heard mobile at Crystal Palace, SE London today - recorded loop announcing itself as a public service broadcast from Ofcom on 87.7. Aimed at potential DJs and MCs, warning against pirate radio offences and advertising and encouraging people to grass up anyone involved or report interference. Anyone know the tx site? Not strong at CP - ironically, slight splatter from pirate on 87.6 !"

Not audible here 2130 January 9 on 6070 via the Twente Online receiver, clear frequency. I did notice that the 6060 Iran transmitter in Arabic was distorted and causing splatter, including on 6070.

Noted on the Twente online receiver at 1350 January 10 S9 to S9+10, very weak and fluttery here, 6005 and 6085 Kall also weaker than usual and fluttery.

NordAM broadcast

Hi there, friends around the globe,

As it is only a few weeks to go till Christmas, we thought we could send you some warm vibes of well-choosen music through the magic of international airwaves. As you might remember, NordAM is a little free-radio project, broadcasting via Radio 700's transmitting station in Kall-Krekel, Germany.

In last June, we announced to take a break for about a year, so until we return fully restored next August (yep, we're talking of August 2013 which seems to be a very long time!) on the radio, we bring you a "light version" of NordAM, which will be a little bit shorter than usual and consist of less talk, but more music. We hope you will enjoy it!

Our broadcast will be on the air on December 16th 2012, 2230 UTC on 3955 kHz and probably also on 1593 kHz. We expect 3955 kHz to be audible in many parts of Europe and maybe beyond even, while 1593 kHz can currently only be heard in parts of Germany, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Belgium.

South Herts Radio to close

Gary Drew writes: "Just a little update for you regards Laser Hot Hits. Some Sunday's the webstream is relayed by Radio Blackbeard on 6266 KHz. Tests of Laser on other wavelengths will be carried out soon.

I am closing South Herts Radio at the end of the year. I have been running this hobby station for 5 and a half years and I want to start a new station later in 2013 trying something new. Plans are being made already and I hope to launch a new internet station with relays from the stream on FM and SW. I will be in partnership with others and I hope it will be on air '24/7' on-line with relays mostly on Sundays.

A new name is being considered and it will be registered for the domain on the web. I'm taking my time to get it right so it may be a good 9 months before it takes to the air so let's hope it's worth the wait."

Hallo zusammen,

wenn man davon ausgehen kann, dass der Spuk rund um die 7265 khz in den
 vergangen Wochen von einer Person ausging, dürfte das Ganze wohl nun erst
 einmal ein Ende gefunden haben. Ich habe läuten gehört, dass vor dem Haus
 desjenigen heute die freundlichen Herren von der BNetzA Aussenstelle Krefeld
 mit ihrem VW Bulli vor der Tür gestanden haben und weitere Aussendungen
 (fürs erste) unterbunden haben.

Alles weitere wird jetzt wohl der “Rechtsweg” klären, keine Ahnung, wie da
 Vorgehensweise und Strafen aussehen.

Pirate broadcast of Sudwestrundfunk

SWR stopped broadcasts on 7265 kHz eight years ago but recently the station has been heard again on 7265 kHz.

Manuel Méndez of Lugo, Spain reports via the DX Listening Digest Yahoo group: "About the German station Südwestrundfunk SWR now on 7265 kHz Short Wave, that I picked it up 25th of November, this station has been out of the air since 2004 in this frequency. I send an e-mail in English to the Station to see if they confirm the come back to the air on Short Wave and here is the reply in German. Below is the English translation with the aid of Google translate."

der SWR betreibt seit 2004 keinen Kurzwellensender mehr. Zudem besitzen wir für diese ehemalige SWR-Frequenz auch keine Lizenz mehr. Momentan wird aber unser SWR3-Programm auf der Frequenz 7265 kHz ohne unsere Erlaubnis unrechtmäßig ausgestrahlt. Die Bundesnetzagentur ist über diesen Umstand bereits informiert und wir prüfen, ob wir rechtliche Schritte gegen Unbekannt ergreifen.

Harald Khul adds on the BDXC Yahoo group: "Hamburger Lokalradio is testing on 6190 kHz and 7265 kHz. However, there was a jamming station trying to interfer with these tests. Also the program of Westdeutscher Rundfunk WDR4 has been used for deliberate jamming of Hamburger Lokalradio on 6190 kHz and 7265 kHz."
