Special Leap Day broadcasts from Italy

Please be informed that  Marconi Radio International should next be audible on  29th February  2016, from 09.30 to 13.00 UTC, on 11390 kHz.

This special leap day broadcast will include, station identification announcements in Italian, English, German, Spanish, French and Catalan as well as  a  DX programme  (Italian Shortwave Panorama) and rock music show (Microwaves) in English.

The same above contents  will also be carried via IBC Italian Broadcasting Corporation on 6970 kHz, on the same day  (29th February 2016)  from 08.00 to 11.00 UTC.

Marconi Radio International encourages reception reports from listeners. Audio clips (mp3-file) of our broadcasts  are welcome! New DigiDX tests on 75m & to N.America

DigiDx Report

We have added another transmission for tomorrow (Saturday 27th). The same edition of episode two which will broadcast to North America will also broadcast to Europe on 3985Khz at 1700UTC via Radio 700 in Germany. Mainly in MFSK32 but with some Olivia 64-2000 after 19 minutes. Reception reports to reports@digidx.uk please.

Special test broadcast to North America on Channel 292 6070kHz. Sunday 28th February 2016 at 0200UTC. The broadcast will be a special edition of episode 2 mainly in MFSK32 but also including a Olivia-64 2000 test and the Channel 292 logo image broadcast in MFSK32.

Italian free radio stations to celebrate World Radio Day

On February 13, let's celebrate free radio together on the occasion of World Radio Day! Tune in to MRI as well as Italian Broadcasting Corporation and Radio Europe! Thank you for your participation!

Greetings from Italy!

On February 13, Marconi Radio International celebrates the  role of free shortwave radio on the occasion of World Radio Day. That's why we have produced, in cooperation with other two free radios of Italy, Radio Europe  and IBC – Italian Broadcasting Corporation, a special 1 hour show in Italian.

This day of celebration is also an opportunity to remember why we love free  radio, to highlight the power of this medium to bring people together and to share this with shortwave enthusiasts.

With this in mind, we invite SWLs  to listen  not only to Marconi Radio International on 11390 kHz but also Italian Broadcasting Corporation on 6970 kHz and Radio Europe on 6875 kHz. These shortwave stations  will in fact carry over the air, next Saturday at different times, that special programme which includes interviews with people behind the operation of the three free radios.

As usual MRI, which this Saturday, 13 February 2016,  will be on the air from 09.00 to 14.00 UTC on 11390 kHz with 30 watts, encourages reception reports from listeners. Audio clips (mp3-file) of our broadcasts  are welcome! We QSL 100%.

The Shortwave Service in Germany just announced that Hobart Radio International will be broadcast via their transmitters for the first time this weekend, the details are below:

Radio Marconi Int to celebrate 30th anniversary with special broadcast

Marconi Radio International (MRI) began its shortwave transmissions on 4th   January 1986, with the aim of being a radio for DXers. That's why we have planned a special 30th anniversary broadcast on the following days and times:

3rd January 2016 from 07.00 to 16.00 UTC;
4th January 2026 from 13.00 to 16.00 UTC.

Our frequency remains the same: 11390 kHz and power in the region of 30 watts. To mark this milestone, we’ll broadcast a special programme in Italian with details on the history of MRI and interviews with two well known DXers of Italy: Dario Monferini and Roberto Scaglione.

Also our playlist will have something special as only songs with the word "radio" in their title will be played (the playlist  includes also some little known tunes like “Radio Tirana” by the Polish band Kult!).

But that is not all. In addition to our weekly DX programme in English "Italian Shortwave Panorama" and "Studio DX", produced and presented by Roberto Scaglione, we'll be airing  two vintage MRI programmes:  a DX Show in English of 25th December 1991 hosted by a female speaker, as well as the edition nr. 6  of "Italian Wave", a programme aired during  1986, which featured new Italian bands playing different kinds of rock music.

As usual MRI encourages reception reports from listeners. Audio clips (mp3-file) of our broadcasts  are welcome! We QSL 100% and of course a special 30th anniversary QSL verification will be sent to acknowledge reports about reception of above mentioned broadcasts.

The UK's only regular MW Pirate Station will be closing after our Xmas Day & Boxing Day transmission on 1521Khz (197m) to SW London and surrounding areas.

After 4 years of regular weekly broadcasting Sundays 10-2pm and Bank Holidays, it is with deep regret that because MW listening holds no attraction anymore, we have decided to pull the plug.

Seasonal broadcast from FRS Holland

FRS' traditional Seasonal broadcast will be aired aired on Sunday December 27th.  

This year’s broadcast will see a different approach in contrast with previous editions. FRS-Holland will be airing two 3 hour blocks.

The first one will be between 08:52- 12:00 UTC/ 09:52- 13:00 CET followed by an afternoon slot between 12:52- 16:00 UTC/ 13:52- 17:00 CET. Frequencies remain unchanged: 7700 //9300 kHz. 

There might be an evening slot in favour of North American listeners, if so details will be announced as soon as possible!

Our seasonal programmes will be presented by Paul Graham, Jan van Dijk, Roger Davis, Dave Scott & Peter Verbruggen. The music of your life and more… We will ring out 2015 in a great way!

Radio Marconi Int QSL

Radio Marconi Int from Italy sent this eQSL and a station newsletter. In it they explain that the transmitter can only broadcast between 11 and 12 mHz but there are plans for a second transmitter which can be tuned between 6 and 21 mHz. At the moment the station is a difficult catch on 11390 kHz although they have received reports from 13 countries. The station first went on the air in 1986 and continued until 1999. This year RMI returned to the airwaves. Thanks for the QSL.

Great QSL received from QBC International. The station, which broadcasts from Hungary, used to be called Lightning Radio. But after a break of a few years he is back with a new station. He uses a 10-12W transmitter with a dipole antenna aligned north to south, 9 metres above ground level. He broadcasts on 6985 kHz weekdays from 1800-2400 UTC and weekends from 1400-0200 UTC. The end for Radio Zeewolf?

Wizard's MW Free Radio blog reports: "On July 26 two men were seen outside the house of the operator of Radio Zeewolf, who was transmitting on MW at the time. They were taking photographs of the antenna and were thought to have been representatives of the AT, who are responsible for keeping the airwaves clear of illicit radio stations in the Netherlands. However, they were not seen again and nothing was heard about the visit. Not until October 31."
