FRS Holland on air this Sunday

On Sunday November 7, the Free Radio Service Holland will again hit the airwaves. This autumn broadcast will feature our full programming: no less than 5 hours of Sunday free radio entertainment. 

Programmes will commence at 08:52 UTC/ 09:52 CET and close down will be just after 14:05 UTC/ 15:05 CET. Programmes will be aired on 7700//5800 kHz as well as on 6185 kHz. Please note that the 5800 kHz frequency can be altered a bit up or downwards. 

Catch us on Sunday November 7th….the best in music, many interesting (radio) related items, e-mails and letters will be read out from last August (29th), flashbacks to our 10th anniversary back in October 1990. And: our programming will include a lengthy (45 minute!) edition of 'FRS goes DX' packed with news & background infos from around the world and the shortwave free radio scene.

Radio Merlin raided

I'm a bit late to this news as I'm on holiday this week but I saw on Facebook that the long-running
shortwave pirate Radio Merlin International was raided today by Ofcom at 11.48am backed up by five police cars. 

Ofcom had a warrant to enter operator Paul Watt's premises while it was unoccupied and proceeded to remove equipment from the studio.

The station, which has been running since 1990, has been one of the most regular operators on 48 metres running daily broadcasts on 6305 kHz.

Recently the station was heard widely across North America thanks to a relay via WRMI but it looks like Merlin will be off the air now for the foreseeable future.

The last UK shortwave pirate to be raided was Bogusman, who had been broadcasting on an international emergency frequency. But we don't know what prompted Ofcom to take action again Merlin.

Beginning September 4 in NAm (September 5 UTC), Texas Radio Shortwave, Limpia Mountains Radio, and WRMI begin a new series of Europirate relays at 8pm ET (0000 UTC) on TRSW’s “regular” frequency of 5950 kHz.  The station lineup looks like this:

New FRS Holland broadcasts

On Sunday August 29th, the Free Radio Service Holland will take to the airwaves with a 4 hour evening broadcast. 

On this occasion, programmes will commence at 17:52 UTC (19:52 CEST) and close down will be at 22:05 UTC (00:05 CEST).  The current propagation pattern made us decide to start not earlier than 18:00 UTC. Programmes will be aired on 7700//4900 kHz as well as on 6185 kHz. Meanwhile on Saturday August 14th at 02:00 UTC, FRS-Holland will have a one hour relay by courtesy of Texas Radio Shortwave. The show will be aired on 5800 kHz via a 100 kW transmitter from Radio Miami Int. (WRMI).. Texas Radio Shortwave selected a number of low power Euro SW stations that broadcast interesting programs. 

Aim is to provide interesting content for North American listeners who may not know these stations exist and for DXers who can’t hear these stations under current solar conditions. Although WRMI's 5800 signal is primarily aimed at North America, reception in Europe is possible. So, if you are a night owl you know what to do!

Series 2 of Europirate relays via WRMI

News from Texas Radio Shortwave, who has already organised relays for Radio Merlin Int, Radio Monique, Charleston Radio Int & Cool AM via WRMI 

Ahoy Mateys -

We wanted to give you a heads-up that we'll soon announce Series 2 of our Europirate relays over WRMI.  We have a mix of new and returning stations with September and, we think, October relay dates filled.  We're waiting on a few stations to respond so we can begin filling dates in November.

Also, watch the Facebook groups for the announcement of a special commemorative eQSL for listeners who verified the five Europirates featured in July relays.

Other than those, nothing new from TRSW.  Our Prime programs continue as scheduled and we have four more European pirate and low-powered licensed station relays throughout August.

We need another holiday this Summer!
