Radio Mi Amigo QSL

QSL card received in the post from Radio Mi Amigo for their broadcast via Radio 700 on September 14. A note on the back says they will be back in November on 6005 and 7310 kHz. Although the station is in Spain, the card was posted from Switzerland. The website is radiomiamigo.es

On Sunday October 26th  FRS-Holland will be on air  with a full broadcast between 08:52- 15:00 UTC. Frequencies will be 7700// 9300 kHz.

In the mean  time FRS-Holland has become 34 years....that was celebrated with an 'extra'  broadcast on Sunday evening August 31st. FRS strives  to have its brand new website on-line sometime in December. The site  will emphasize on FRS'  30+ year history in words, pictures & sound.  We invite you as a FRS listener to put your very own  personal FRS memories on paper.

When did you hear us for the  first time, what was (is) your favourite show, when did you get your first QSL,  how much did you listen to FRS, any special on air moments you remember? All  this info will be part of your personal FRS contribution.  Any serious  contribution will be part of the new website. We very much appreciate your input  as an FRS listener!

Magic confusion

Long-running Dutch shortwave pirate Magic AM has been getting emails for a new shortwave station, also calling itself Magic - which is thought to be from the UK. He has warned people he will not be sending them on!

The Dutch Magic AM has gone onto Twitter to say: "We are getting a lot of e-mails and snailmail for a station calling himself MAGIC int. in our mailbox and P.O.Box lately. Please note that these e-mails and snailmail will not be forwarded. We are MAGIC AM, active on shortwave since 1996, and we do not know the people behind the other station,using our name & running non-stop music on SW.We have been on air since 1996 & will stay MAGIC AM forever."

Somerset pirate station vows to return

The bosses of a pirate radio station in Taunton (Somerset) say they’ll be back despite being shut down for the second time in five months.

A spokesman for the industry watchdog (Ofcom) said the raid on Rage FM on Friday morning was part of an inquiry into “radio interference”. A Rage representative said he was incensed by the early morning operation.

He said: “Their (Ofcom) tactics are turning desperate. “Their activities woke many residents – just to seize an FM transmitter rig and aerial from a tree. Their claims of interference to emergency services radios and anti-social behaviour are generalised to say the least and no such evidence exists in our case.”

Quick reply from Radio OZNRH from Denmark. I heard snatches of music on 6263.5 kHz on Saturday night and sent audio files to the station to ask if it was them. Today I got the reply to say it was OZNRH. In his reply Ole said they are only using a 4m high vertical coil antenna but are increasing the height to 6m to try and improve the signal. Radio Arcadia QSL

A very quick reply from new station Radio Arcadia. In an email he says: "Arcadia is a thematic free radio only for jazz and fusion music. Power only 30 watt carrier / max 50 watt AM on medium waves (only local)." He also said he was being relayed by U-Boat 66 Radio in Italy. Many thanks for the QSL.

Pirate from Denmark tests on 48 metres

Last night a pirate from Denmark, Radio OZNRH tested on 48m. This was their message posted on the HF Underground forum.
"We start 20:00 UTC (22:00 European Summer Time) and 2 hours until 22:00 UTC. It happens on our test frequency 6263.5 kHz. with somewhat mixed music.
Our output is about 800W PEP on a vertical antenna, 4 meter high with coils on a 'little hill'. Our physical position in Denmark is North Zealand, the Hillerod area (see Google Map). Reports are very welcome here (radiooznrh@'gmail.com).
So if you want to get a really DX station, so you have the possibility now .
We acknowledge with an electronic QSL cards."

A follow-up message posted this morning says the test did not go well because of a Dutch pirate 2.5 kHz away so they plan to test again this evening.

Plug pulled on pensioner's pirate radio station

An OAP cancer survivor has been prosecuted for setting up a radio station to support fellow sufferers.
Brian Barfoot, 70, of Wickford, Essex, appeared at Basildon Magistrates Court last Friday, August 8, to admit broadcasting from a pirate radio station.
 He insisted he had only created the station to offer advice and support for men with cancer, claiming there was a bias in the media towards women's charities. He said complicated registration processes had deterred him from seeking a radio licence.
He pleaded guilty to one charge of establishing or using a wireless telegraphy station without a licence and one charge of being in charge of a premises and knowingly failing to prevent its use for unlawful broadcasting.
He ran the station – named in court documents as Monster House Radio – from a unit in Russell Court, Wickford. He was ordered to pay £250 in fines, £500 in prosecution costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

New museum devoted to the 'pop pirates' who changed radio

The Sunday Express reports: "Entrepreneur Ray Anderson has opened his “Anarchy on the Airwaves” exhibition within sight of where the Radio Caroline pirate ship Mi Amigo was moored off the Essex coast to begin broadcasting in March 1964.
"At his Clacton seafront museum, he said: “The pop pirates like Caroline, Radio London and Radio City attracted 25 million listeners and turned British broadcasting on its head.
“It’s a rich, exciting story that involved millionaires, pop stars, shipwrecks, sieges, government jamming, fire-bombings and even murder allegations."
