Shortwave pirates of the 1980s remembered

Some of you will have seen my Pirate Memories blog featuring audio clips and QSLs from many of
the shortwave pirates from the 1980s.

I have given it a bit of a revamp with a new template and also now embedded the audio clips into each post making it easier to click on and listen to the recordings.

Going through it, what struck me is just how many British and Irish shortwave stations there were in the 1980s, with names like Radio Gemini, Radio Apollo, Weekend Music Radio and West European Free Radio from the UK.

Of the 100 plus station recordings, the majority are from the UK and Ireland, plus clips from stations around Europe, including the Netherlands, Germany and Sweden.

In addition to the shortwave stations, there's also clips of some 1980s medium wave and FM stations from the London area, like Thameside Radio, Radio Floss and a clip of Radio Jackie broadcasting during a raid!

So sit back and enjoy the memories!

EMR off air for the forseeable future

Dear EMR Listeners,

Due to my cancer condition (non-Hodgkin Lymphoma) that was diagnosed in February 2017, I regret to tell you that EMR will be off air until further notice.

I hope to return EMR to the air at some point in 2018.

EMR was one of first pirate stations I listened to when I first began shortwave listening. In 2002 the station switched to legal relays but remained a "free radio" station at heart. All the best Tom, I hope to hear EMR on the air again soon. Visit their website to find out more about the station.

Good Evening Friends,

We are a new shortwave station called Torpoint Radio Worldwide.

We will be broadcasting on 6070khz EU tonight at short notice at 1900 UTC to listeners all over EU & UK. This will be a 2 hour live show and we will be sending a QSL card to every listener!!! We will allow reports from utwente for all the QSL hunters out there who wish to get the card once and move on!!!

Tonight 1900 UTC myself and Richard Barbella Cook will be on the air.

This is a regular every day live feed thanks to Rainer Ebling at C292 who has been most kind to us!
