Blue Moon Radio is a station from Ireland which has been testing around 6260 kHz. I heard him on 6260.8 kHz. He has been running 40W into a half wave dipole.

Central Radio Int from the UK was logged on Sunday evening with a fair signal - thanks to a (rare) bit of short skip.

eQSL received from Bogusman - skip actually short enough to hear for a change.

Delta Radio Int sent some photos. He said the station has been around since the 1970s but has not been heard on shortwave for several years. He said he will produce a QSL for future broadcasts. I believe this is a separate Delta Radio from two other Delta radios on shortwave - one who also calls himself Technical Man and Delta Radio (West Brabant).

Operator of Radio Caroline Int/Goofy passes away

Very sad news that  Paul, who operated Radio Caroline Int and Radio Goofy from the Czech/German border area has died.

He had cancer and in his last message on the AM Forum in February he said he was seriously ill and the cancer had spread.

Now Sluwe Vos Radio has been informed that he passed away on April 26, 2018.

He was frequently heard on 48 metres with programmes of music and jingles and also a regular in Iann's pirate chat. He always thanked me for logging his station.

eQSL from Greek pirate Zeppelin Radio

My tentative reception of Zeppelin Radio on Monday has been rewarded with an eQSL from the station. In an email the operator said he uses a homebrew 110W transmitter with 47m longwire antenna. Although Greek pirates are regularly heard mixing with the Dutch at the top of medium wave, not so many are heard on shortwave.

This is only my third shortwave Greek pirate - the others were Odyssey Radio and Spider Radio, around 10 years ago. Many thanks for this eQSL.

Irish pirate radio history

This month's Wireless on Flirt FM features aspects of the history of the Irish pirate radio era of the 1970s and 1980s.

2018 is the 30th anniversary of the closure of the pirates in anticipation of new broadcasting legislation.

The programme features an interview with Irish radio historian Eddie Bohan on a new exhibition on the pirates to open in Dublin in May, and an interview with veteran broadcaster David Baker who worked in various Dublin stations in the 1980s and went on to radio in the UK.

Marconi Radio Int aims for New Zealand

Marconi Radio International has planned two special broadcasts, from 1630 to 1930 UTC, as follows:
7 April 2018 on 7720 kHz (100 Watts, USB Mode) 
9 April 2018 on 6970 kHz (1000 watts, USB mode). 

The aim of those brodcasts is to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the New Zealand DX League  with the hope that at least one of the frequencies will propagate to New Zealand.

Global HF pirate weekend

Next Global HF Weekend: March 30, 31, and April 1, 2018
Andrew Yoder writes:
"The idea behind the Global HF Weekends are to promote friendship through radio around the world. The hope is that listeners will be able to hear different stations and for broadcasters to reach distant locations. Anyone may participate.

"The last one, which occurred during the first weekend of November 2017, was very successful. A handful of North American stations were reported on Europe and vice versa. And South American stations were heard in the North. Other stations were active specifically for the weekend, but just for a local or regional audience.

"We'll see how many stations show up during the next GHFW. It seems unlikely that stations will be using 13 meters this time and much more likely that stations will be trying the 6900-kHz range and possibly 31 and 25 meters.

March 30, 31, & April 1, 2018
Maybe 15010-15090 kHz, probably 6200-6400 kHz and 6800-6990 kHz

"Of course, these were general frequency ranges used by pirates during prior Global HF Pirate weekends. Some stations will surely operate on frequencies and times outside of these ranges. In fact, the way conditions have been lately, frequencies at or below 15 MHz seem like they will be more effective for intercontinental broadcasting.
