Meanwhile, tonight from 19-2100UTC, Radio Mi Amigo is being broadcast via the Ulbroka, Latvia transmitter on 9290. I guess this is the same station that has been heard via IRRS and, more recently, via the Lithuania medium wave transmitter on 1386.

6220: Mystery Radio @ 1700 coming in with a very good signal. As usual, the non-stop pops. SINO 44444.

Anyone who can receive Channel 4 in the UK, can see a programme on TV tonight at 9pm (BST) called Get Your Act Together With Harvey Goldsmith where the famous music promoter tries to turn around the fortunes of the radio station Big L 1395, which despite having many famous name DJs has very few listeners. I watched the show last week, where he helped 1980s heavy metal band Saxon reach out to new younger metal fans.

Free radio wikipedia

Jonny of the Swedish Report Service has launched his latest project - a free radio wikipedia. The idea is that it will build up into a free radio resource listing stations past and present, offshore and land-based.

As he only unveiled it yesterday the wikipedia is looking rather empty but hopefully in time stations will visit and enter information about themselves. Free radio fans can also edit and add their own information, if they so wish.

If you want to visit the site, click on the Swedish Report Service link on this page or go to www.srs.pp.se

Radio Six's shortwave break

Changes to Radio Six International schedule

Our current schedule of shortwave transmissions via Ulbroka, Latvia on 9290 kHz will end on March 10th, when the last edition of the present series of the "Tony Currie Show" will include listeners' requests on that day. Email your requests to letters @ radiosix.com

But we're not abandoning shortwave - this hiatus is purely for operational reasons and we will resume regular shortwave transmissions in June.

For the meantime our broadcasts continue 24/7 on http://www.radiosix.com and between 0600 and 0700 GMT via World FM in Wellington, NZ on 88.5; and from 0000 to 0600 GMT via Radio Tatras International in Poprad, Slovakia on 94.2/94.8 plus Astra satellite (Sky channel 0195) and Hotbird (12.523 GHz Horizontal).

We've never had a reception report from Hotbird, and would appreciate it if anyone could confirm reception of our programmes on that outlet. A QSL card will be issued; please email reports to letters @ radiosix.com

Britain Radio International

We have been unable to produce any new programmes during Jan/Feb due to various non-radio commitments.

The replacement flashback show will be broadcast again this Sunday (25th), however a new show will go out during the 2nd/4th Sundays in March.

There will be two interesting Radio Caroline features, one by Tom Anderson remembering March 20th 1980 when the Mi-Amigo lost its fight with the sea, also a tour of the Ross Revenge last year with Rick Wakeman, the DJ profile for this month will be Robbie Dale.

We hope to be on air this Sunday with a test to North America/Europe starting approx 6.30am UK time (0630UTC) using either 6235kz/ 6240khz/6250khz, probably our usual channel 6240khz is the most likely one.

There could be further early Sunday morning tests during March.

Pirate recordings

The Medium Wave Circle is pleased to announce the release of its latest CDs.

It's an 80+ hour triple CD set of British landbased pirate stations recorded between 1983 and 1991. The first two CDs are all London stations such as well remembered R Jackie, R Sovereign, Horizon FM, LWR etc, and many long forgotten weekend hobby pirate stations.

The third CD consists of recordings of stations from Liverpool, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Essex etc.

Back in the 1980s, pirate stations offered a bigger variety of formats than they do today. On these recordings, you will find stations broadcasting rock, rock & roll, pop, oldies, easy listening, r & b, reggae, soul, jazz etc.

A full itinerary, prices and ordering details can be found on our website at: http://www.mwcircle.org

Unfortunately I can't hear anything on 6250 at present (1130UTC), apart from occasional utilities, to confirm it. Not hearing anything on 6300 either!

If 6250 is the new frequency then RRI might face co-channel QRM during parts of the day from North Korea and Iran who are both listed as using this frequency.

Radio Rainbow to move

Message from Radio Rainbow:

Dear freedom lovers;

It came to our knowledge there is a unwritten agreement between several free radio stations about 6300 khz.

There is also a free radio station transmitting from the Sahara which choose this frequency.

Because of our great respect for free radio stations of good will, we have decided to change our frequency of our 24 hour service Radio Rainbow International - the Voice of Peace.

We ordered equipment for another frequency. It will take about 2 weeks before we are receiving this. Until than we will be on 6300 khz, as published worldwide.

We wish you all the best and are looking forward of cooperation between our stations for free radio and peace sake! Let us all promote real freedom, peace of mind and loving awareness, no matter what 'they' say!

Best wishes;
crew
RRI

(info via Dr Tim News)

At the moment Radio Rainbow is inaudible for most of the time on 6300, even when the frequency is clear. As I type this @ 1045, I can hear nothing on 6300. If it want to provide a 24 hour service, the station will need to do something so its signal can be heard properly. ukdxer
